Marathon Receives Contract For 300-Foot Drilling Tender
Marathon Manufacturing Company's Republic of Singapore shipyard has been awarded a contract from Brunei Shell Petroleum Company, Ltd. to construct a 4,850-dwt all-weather, nonpropelled drilling tender. The new unit is a sistership to the drilling tender built at the Marathon Singapore yard in 1972.
The drilling tender is designed to operate in water depths of from 30 to 300 feet. It will be working in the South China Sea off the coast of Brunei. Delivery of the vessel, Marathon Hull No. 118, is scheduled for December 1977.
The vessel measures 300 feet by 70 feet by 34 feet 6 inches. It has an eight-point mooring system consisting of four doubledrum winches using 2-inch wire and 20,000- pound anchors.
The vessel is equipped with facilities necessary for the completion of two to three wells. It will be outfitted with three General Electric Model 17 HPD, 12-cylinder, 2,000- kw continuous output engine generator sets, two National 10-P-130 triplex slush pumps with complete dry and liquid mud systems and a treated brine system. The weather deck pipe rack area will be served by two Unit Mariner 750 cranes.
The drilling tender will have air-conditioned accommodations, galleys and offices for a 108-man crew.
